HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME

(Extract from the men’s Bible study group on The Lord’s Prayer – written by Kevin McPeake)

Each time we say The Lord’s Prayer we say “Hallowed be Your Name”  But do we know what it means to “hallow’ God’s Name or do we just say it because it’s in the prayer?

“Hallowed be Your Name” is a reminder to us, the believers, of our responsibility to always behave in a way that honors, respects and brings glory to God.

The reputation of our family name is very important to us, so how much more important is it that we enhance God’s reputation by the way we live our lives.  As we say, “hallowed be Your Name” we are saying that GOD’S PERSON, CHARACTER, REPUTATION AND VERY BEING will always be honored by us.

We cannot choose which traits of God we want to honor; we cannot choose His love, but not His justice, His compassion but not His purity or righteousness. We cannot say that we hallow God’s Name and bring Him glory if we do not FULLY understand and acknowledge His character. When we fully come to know all aspects of God’s character then we can truly praise and glorify Him.

3 Attitudes we need to cultivate to magnify and glorify God are:

1. Be grateful

2. Be a giver

3. Be obedient

We can only have one of two attitudes in life:

1. Put yourself first

              OR

2. PUT GOD FIRST -  by not just  saying “hallowed be Your Name” but by truly demonstrating it through our daily living and through prayer. (Taken from “The Prayer God Answers” – Michael Youssef)

IS GOD FIRST in your life and my life?  When we pray, “hallowed be Your Name” we MUST demonstrate God’s holiness all the time. (John Simons)
