2007 TOC H YOUTH AMBASSADORS’ END OF YEAR REPORT

Good evening members of Toc H, invited guests, ladies and gentleman. It was at this very ceremony twelve months ago that we, the 2007 Toc H Youth Ambassadors, were presented with the sashes and took up our role as Ambassadors. We all feel as though this year has just disappeared, but that does not mean that this year has not been a busy and productive one.

Our journey together as Youth Ambassadors began on the eighth of January of this year, when we all flew down to Canberra to participate in the five day Toc H Youth Leadership Course of 2007. As the name of this program suggests, it was here that we polished or, for some, developed our leadership skills and the qualities that make you a leader (including time management). After our trip to Canberra, it was then time to put our leadership skills into practice.

Over the year we attended the Annual Sponsors Breakfast, the Channel Ten Christmas Party and the Mareeba Mardi Gras, participated in the 2007 Relay for Life, hosted the Annual Mayor’s Breakfast, the Annual Ryan Anthony Lui Memorial Dinner and the 2007 World Chain of Light Service this evening and presented wreaths on behalf of the branch on various occasions, including Remembrance Day.

Our final test came on October the twenty-seventh, when we hosted the Annual Toc H Trivia Night. Along with hosting the evening, it was, also, our job to write the questions and mark the answer sheets at the end of each round. It is safe to say that each of us believes that the evening was a successful and enjoyable one. After our year as serving as Youth Ambassadors for this branch, each of us believes that we have become a more confident group of teenagers whom are able to lead well, manage time better and have learnt valuable lessons on how to work together to get things done.

And, now, our year as Youth Ambassadors is almost over, but before we leave you tonight we would like to take this opportunity to thank Les and David for all their hard work and encouragement over the past year. The opportunities that we have experienced as a result of this course have impacted our lives immensely. We, also, would like to commend the Youth Ambassadors of 2008 on making the effort to apply for this fantastic opportunity and wish them the very best of luck over the coming year. Well, that’s all we have to say, so thank you for listening and we hope that you enjoy the rest of your evening.
